Affiliated Healthcare Systems (AHS) had outgrown its existing offices at the Union Street Healthcare Mall and the lease was up on its large mobile health facility. AHS called on WBRC Architects Engineers to help select a new site and design a facility that would meet a long list of necessary criteria.
Capital Ambulance, its mobile health division, needed a major road with a signaled intersection and easy access to the Interstate for its ambulances. WBRC worked with the City of Bangor to obtain a site adjacent to Northern Light Eastern Maine Healthcare Mall on Union Street. This site allowed for a new signaled intersection, and provided a three-story office building to house more than a dozen operating divisions, as well as an attached 12-bay ambulance facility.
The 26,000 SF Douglas H. Brown Building has easy access to both I-95 and the airport (a two-minute drive), and has the flexibility to allow individual businesses to adapt interior spaces to meet changing needs.
