The reimagination of L.L.Bean’s iconic Freeport, Maine flagship store and campus is underway, with WBRC serving as the Architect and Engineer of Record. The renewed store and campus will emerge with new and enhanced experiences for customers, employees, visitors, and community members.
The reimagined space includes a more inviting, pedestrian-friendly store entrance on Main Street. Discovery Park, an outdoor concert and events venue in the center of campus, will be expanded and connect more fluidly with Main Street. The project also includes campus-wide accessibility improvements and infrastructure upgrades.
Inside, a more dynamic flagship store will bring L.L.Bean’s purpose – enabling customers to experience the restorative benefits of being outside – to life for its customers. Features will include a new fishpond and accessible aquarium, enhanced display areas for outdoor gear, a more intuitive customer journey, improved employee spaces, and other amenities designed to create a best-in-class retail experience.
L.L.Bean’s flagship store in Freeport is the second most visited tourist destination in Maine. The company is investing more than $50 million in the renewal. It is a reaffirmation of L.L.Bean’s commitment to its customers, employees, the Town of Freeport, and the people of Maine. The store will stay open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year during construction.
