Sebasticook River Senior Apartments in Newport is the third in a series of affordable senior apartments. Like its predecessor, North View Senior Apartments in Dover-Foxcroft, Sebasticook River offers Maine housing providers near Net Zero energy costs.
The 20,500 SF, 24-unit building provides affordable 1-BR apartments for Maine seniors for near net zero annual energy costs due to a combination of 100 KW solar photovoltaic power system, building-wide mechanical heat recovery system, and a remarkably tight energy envelope that includes triple glaze windows and foam insulation. The building design is simple, accessible, and provides a very comfortable living space for its occupants. A larger version of this facility prototype is currently under development for local Maine housing authority.
